RESUMO

B-cell activating factor (BAFF), a critical regulator of B cells, is involved in various autoimmune diseases. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronic and recurrent intestinal inflammatory disorders with unclear etiology, and its global incidence has been increasing in recent years. Abnormal immune responses triggered by multiple factors are closely related to the pathogenesis of IBD. Previous studies have confirmed the association of B-cell abnormal activation and increased production of autoantibodies with the development of ulcerative colitis. However, the involvement of BAFF in the mechanisms of IBD remains unclear. This review summarizes the potential role of BAFF in the pathogenesis of IBD and provides an overview of targeted therapies on BAFF in IBD, aiming to contribute insights for targeted treatments of IBD.

Background and Aims: China accounts for nearly half of liver cancer deaths globally. A better understanding of the current liver cancer mortality will be helpful to establishing priorities for intervention and to decreasing the disease burden of liver cancer. The study aimed to explore and predict the mortality burden of liver cancer in China. Methods: Data were extracted from the Disease Surveillance Point system of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2008 to 2020. Crude and age-standardized liver cancer mortality rates were reported by sex, urban or rural residence, and region. Trends in liver cancer mortality rates from 2008 to 2020 were estimated as average annual percentage change (AAPC). The changing trend of live cancer mortality in the future is also predicted. Results: In 2020, the crude mortality of liver cancer was 25.57/100,000, and males and people lived in rural areas had higher age-standardized liver cancer mortality rates than females and people lived in people in urban areas. Crude mortality and age-standardized mortality rates in southwest provinces (Guangxi, Sichuan, Tibet) and in a northeast province (Heilongjiang) were higher than that in other provinces, and age-specific mortality rates increased with age. From 2008 to 2020, liver cancer mortality rates decreased, but people under 50 years of age had a higher AAPC than those over 50 years of age, possibly because of the adoption of hepatitis B virus vaccination in newborns and children. Furthermore, the mortality of liver cancer in 2021-2030 is predicted to have a downward trend. Conclusions: Liver cancer mortality rates declined in China from 2008 to 2020. Future interventions to control liver cancer mortality need to focus on people of male sex, older age, and living in rural areas or less developed provinces.

Inflammasome activation is a crucial mechanism in inflammatory responses. Bax­interacting factor 1 (Bif­1) is required for the normal formation of autophagosomes, but its ability to exert an inflammatory regulatory effect remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to explore the role of Bif­1 in inflammation, possibly mediated through autophagy regulation. Using a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/adenosine triphosphate (ATP)­induced inflammatory model in J774A.1 cells, the effect of Bif­1 on inflammasome activation and the underlying mechanisms involving autophagy regulation were investigated. Elevated levels of NLR family pyrin domain containing protein 3 inflammasome and interleukin­1ß (IL­1ß) proteins were observed in J774A.1 cells after LPS/ATP induction. Furthermore, Bif­1 and autophagy activity were significantly upregulated in inflammatory cells. Inhibition of autophagy resulted in inflammasome activation. Silencing Bif­1 expression significantly upregulated IL­1ß levels and inhibited autophagy activity, suggesting a potential anti­inflammatory role of Bif­1 mediated by autophagy. Additionally, inhibition of the nuclear factor­κB (NF­κB) signaling pathway downregulated Bif­1 and inhibited autophagy activity, highlighting the importance of NF­κB in the regulation of Bif­1 and autophagy. In summary, the current study revealed that Bif­1 is a critical anti­inflammatory factor against inflammasome activation mediated by a mechanism of autophagy regulation, indicating its potential as a therapeutic target for inflammatory regulation.

Aims: To evaluate and compare lipid accumulation product (LAP) with alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), visceral adiposity index (VAI) and triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) as biomarkers for hepatic steatosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods: LAP, ALT, AST, VAI and TyG were measured in 52 biopsy-proven NAFLD patients and 21 control subjects. Additionally, LAP was also measured in 448 ultrasound-proven NAFLD patients and 1009 control subjects. Results: LAP was positively associated with hepatic steatosis and inflammation in biopsy-proven NAFLD. The risk of NAFLD was positively related to LAP and TyG, but LAP showed a better area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for hepatic steatosis and NAFLD. LAP also performed well in recognizing ultrasound-proven NAFLD. Conclusion: LAP is an ideal biomarker of hepatic steatosis and NAFLD.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Intratracheal tumors account for approximately 0.2 % of respiratory tumors, including primary and secondary tumors. Secondary tumors of the upper trachea are most commonly derived from advanced thyroid cancer. Surgical resection is currently the general curative modality for thyroid cancer with tracheal invasion. Patients with tracheal tumors invading and protruding into the lumen may have reduced oxygen reserve capacity, leading to a shorter safe window for general anesthesia induction. Establishing an appropriate artificial airway is essential to ensure intraoperative safety for these patients. Here, we report a case of tracheal tumor caused by differentiated papillary thyroid carcinoma invading the upper segment of the trachea and the non-conventional approach used for intraoperative airway management without traditional endotracheal intubation. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 59-year-old female presented with bilateral neck masses and hemoptysis. The CT scan revealed suspicious malignant thyroid nodules, and tracheoscopy showed an approximately 50 % obstruction of the tracheal lumen. The patient's physical examination and biochemical examination showed no significant abnormalities. Based on imaging studies and pre-anesthetic assessment, a multidisciplinary team decided against performing endotracheal intubation in the patient due to the risk of tumor bleeding during the procedure. Instead, they opted for a modified endotracheal tube and the insertion of a laryngeal mask airway (LMA). The anesthesia induction and maintenance proceeded smoothly, with stable intraoperative hemodynamics. The tumor was successfully resected and tracheal anastomosis was performed without any complications. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: The strategy adroitly evades the risk of bleeding and dislodgement due to tumor contact during the intubation process. In this case report, the anesthetic highlight is the employment of a reverse insertion technique for endotracheal intubation, facilitated by a sterile suction catheter and complemented by an innovative modification to the tracheal tube. CONCLUSION: For patients with thyroid cancer invading the upper segment of the trachea, and in whom rapid induction anesthesia is anticipated not to cause tumor collapse, the use of laryngeal mask airway combined with modified tracheal tube mechanical ventilation is both safe and feasible.

Our prior investigations have evidenced that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC) therapy can significantly improve the outcomes of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the proteomics between BMSCs and BMSCs-Exos, and to further elucidate the potential therapeutic effect of BMSCs-Exos on RA, so as to establish a theoretical framework for the prevention and therapy of BMSCs-Exos on RA. The 4D label-free LC-MS/MS technique was used for comparative proteomic analysis of BMSCs and BMSCs-Exos. Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model was used to investigate the therapeutic effect of BMSCs-Exos on RA. Our results showed that some homology and differences were observed between BMSCs and BMSCs-Exos proteins, among which proteins highly enriched in BMSCs-Exos were related to extracellular matrix and extracellular adhesion. BMSCs-Exos can be taken up by chondrocytes, promoting cell proliferation and migration. In vivo results revealed that BMSCs-Exos significantly improved the clinical symptoms of RA, showing a certain repair effect on the injury of articular cartilage. In short, our study revealed, for the first time, that BMSCs-Exos possess remarkable efficacy in alleviating RA symptoms, probably through shuttling proteins related to cell adhesion and tissue repair ability in CIA rats, suggesting that BMSCs-Exos carrying expressed proteins may become a useful biomaterial for RA treatment.

Cognitive impairment is a common feature among patients with diffuse glioma. The objective of the study is to investigate the relationship between preoperative cognitive function and clinical as well as molecular factors, firstly based on the new 2021 World Health Organization's updated classification of central nervous system tumors. A total of 110 diffuse glioma patients enrolled underwent preoperative cognitive assessments using the Mini-Mental State Examination and Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Clinical information was collected from medical records, and gene sequencing was performed to analyze the 18 most influenced genes. The differences in cognitive function between patients with and without glioblastoma were compared under both the 2016 and 2021 WHO classification of tumors of the central nervous system to assess their effect of differentiation on cognition. The study found that age, tumor location, and glioblastoma had significant differences in cognitive function. Several genetic alterations were significantly correlated with cognition. Especially, IDH, CIC, and ATRX are positively correlated with several cognitive domains, while most other genes are negatively correlated. For most focused genes, patients with a low number of genetic alterations tended to have better cognitive function. Our study suggested that, in addition to clinical characteristics such as age, histological type, and tumor location, molecular characteristics play a crucial role in cognitive function. Further research into the mechanisms by which tumors affect brain function is expected to enhance the quality of life for glioma patients. This study highlights the importance of considering both clinical and molecular factors in the management of glioma patients to improve cognitive outcomes.

Background: Adverse psychological states in surgical patients can impact outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate mood disorders and associated factors in general surgery inpatients using the Huaxi Emotional Distress Index (HEI). Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study analyzed HEI scores of 20,398 adult patients hospitalized for elective surgery at a tertiary hospital in China (2018-2021). Univariable and multivariable logistic regression identified factors linked to moderate/severe mood disturbances. Results: Factors linked to moderate/severe mood disturbances were identified through univariable and multivariable logistic regression. The results showed that 3.7% of the patients had HEI ≥ 13, indicating significant emotional issues. The mean age was 52.67 (16.14) years in the group with no/mild distress and 59.65 (16.34) years in the group with moderate/severe distress. Among all the cases included, there were 2,689 cases (13.18%) of gastric and esophageal diseases, 1,437 cases (7.04%) of hepatic diseases, 913 cases (4.47%) of periampullary and pancreatic tumors, 9,150 cases (44.85%) of gallbladder diseases, 2,777 cases (13.61%) of colorectal diseases, and 3,432 cases (16.83%) of other diseases. The male percentage was 45.5 and 54.9% in the two groups, respectively. Older age, male gender, unstable occupations, lower education, and unmarried status were associated with higher risks of mood disturbances (all p < 0.05). A significant downward trend in adverse emotions was observed with increasing education levels (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the study found that the inpatients had higher HEI scores prior to the COVID-19 pandemic compared to during the pandemic (p < 0.001). However, the occurrence of adverse mood states in these patients was not exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The trend test remained highly significant in the none-adjusted, age-sex adjusted, and fully adjusted models (all p for trend <0.001). Conclusion: The implementation of routine screening in higher education institutions (HEIs) allows for the early identification of surgical inpatients who require psychological intervention. It is recommended that counseling services focus on individuals with lower levels of education and income instability in order to address negative mood states. Furthermore, the potential application of this screening system in other clinical settings could enable earlier psychological interventions for a larger number of patients.

Increasing ocean temperatures threaten the productivity and species composition of marine diatoms. High temperature response and regulation are important for the acclimation of marine diatoms to such environments. However, the molecular mechanisms behind their acclimation to high temperature are still largely unknown. In this study, the abundance of PtCPF1 homologs (a member of the cryptochrome-photolyase family in the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum) transcripts in marine phytoplankton is shown to increase with rising temperature based on Tara Oceans datasets. Moreover, the expression of PtCPF1 in P. tricornutum at high temperature (26 °C) was much higher than that at optimum temperature (20 °C). Deletion of PtCPF1 in P. tricornutum disrupted the expression of genes encoding two phytotransferrins (ISIP2A and ISIP1) and two Na+/P co-transporters (PHATRDRAFT_47667 and PHATRDRAFT_40433) at 26 °C. This further impacted the uptake of Fe and P, and eventually caused the arrest of cell division. Gene expression, Fe and P uptake, and cell division were restored by rescue with the native PtCPF1 gene. Furthermore, PtCPF1 interacts with two putative transcription factors (BolA and TF IIA) that potentially regulate the expression of genes encoding phytotransferrins and Na+/P co-transporters. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to reveal PtCPF1 as an essential regulator in the acclimation of marine diatoms to high temperature through the coordination of Fe and P uptake. Therefore, these findings help elucidate how marine diatoms acclimate to high temperature.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive nodal T-cell and NK-cell lymphoma is a rare neoplasm of cytotoxic T-cell or NK-cell lineage. Here, we report 26 cases affecting 14 men and 12 women with a median age of 52 years. All patients presented with disease involving multiple lymph nodes, and 20 of 22 (91%) fully staged patients had advanced Ann Arbor stage disease. Spleen, liver, and bone marrow were involved in 70%, 50%, and 52% of cases, respectively. These patients had a dismal prognosis with a median survival of 30 days. Histologically, lymph nodes were replaced by lymphoma in a diffuse pattern. Lymphoma cells were variable in size and large cell morphology was seen in 62% of cases. The neoplastic cells were CD4-/CD8- in 14 (54%) cases and CD4-/CD8+ in 12 (46%) cases. CD56 was positive in 14 (54%) cases. CD30 was positive in 20 (77%) cases; a strong and diffuse pattern was observed in 14 (54%) cases, mimicking, in part, anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). CD30 expression was associated with younger age and large cell morphology. In summary, EBV+ nodal T-cell and NK-cell lymphoma is an aggressive disease with a poor prognosis. These neoplasms are heterogeneous at the morphologic and immunophenotypic levels. Diffuse and strong expression of CD30 could potentially lead to a misdiagnosis of ALCL if EBV evaluation is not performed. Distinguishing between EBV+ nodal T-cell and NK-cell lymphoma from ALCL is important because treatment strategy and prognosis differ. CD30 expression offers a potential therapeutic target for patients with this aggressive disease.

A multifunctional polysaccharide-based hydrogel was studied as an additive for enhancing microalgae growth. The hydrogel was fabricated by physically and chemically crosslinking renewable ingredients of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), arrowroot starch, and activated biochar modified with iron using a bio-crosslinker of oxidized sucrose and a plasticizer of glycerol. The optimum formula for the hydrogel with a high swelling ratio, BET surface area, and electrical conductivity was found to include 1 g starch, 3 g CMC, 1.5 g biochar, 15 mL oxidized sucrose, and 1.5 mL glycerol in 200 mL deionized water. The algal yield and cell concentration after 14 days of growth in a Bold basal medium with an optimum concentration of 2.5 g hydrogel/L increased by 65.7 % and 92.2 %, respectively, compared to those of the control without the hydrogel. However, if the hydrogel concentration in the culture increased to 12.5 g/L, the algal yield was decreased by 67.8 % compared to the control due to oxidative injury. The hydrogel additive could significantly increase the nitrogen but decrease the carbon, hydrogen, and sulfur contents of the microalgae. The algal yield with 2.5 g/L hydrogel additive improved by 13.9 % compared to the algal yield with the same amounts of individual non-crosslinked hydrogel ingredients.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules that modulate target-genes expression and play crucial roles in post-transcriptional regulation and immune system regulation. The Hong Kong oyster (Crassostrea hongkongesis), as the main marine aquaculture shellfish in the South China Sea, not only has high economic and ecological value, but also is an ideal model for conducting research on pathogen host interaction. Vibrio harveyi, a Gram negative luminescent marine bacterium, is widely distributed in coastal water environments and can cause large-scale death of C. hongkongesis. However, little in formation is available on the immune regulatory mechanisms of C. hongkongesis infected with V. harveyi. Therefore, we performed microRNA transcriptome analysis for elucidating the immunoregulation mechanism of C. hongkongesis infected with V. harveyi. The results show that a total of 308468208 clean reads and 288371159 clean tags were obtained. 222 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified. A total of 388 target genes that were differentially expressed and negatively correlated with miRNA expression were predicted by 222 DEmiRs. GO enrichment analysis of 388 DETGs showed that they were mainly enriched in the immune-related term of membrane-bounded vesicle, endocytic vesicle lumen, antigen processing and presentation of exogenous peptide antigen via MHC class I, antigen processing and presentation of peptide antigen via MHC class I, and other immune-related term. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that DETGs were mainly enriched in the Complement and coagulation cascades, Herpes simplex virus 1 infection, Bacterial invasion of epithelial cells, Antigen processing and presentation and NOD-like receptor signaling pathway. The 16 key DEmiRs and their target genes form a regulatory network for seven immune-related pathways. These results suggest that V. harveyi infection induces a complex miRNA response with wide-ranging effects on immune gene expression in the C. hongkongesis. This study explored the immune response of C. hongkongesis to V. harveyi infection at the level of miRNAs, which provides new ideas for the healthy culture and selective breeding of C. hongkongesis.

BACKGROUND: Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a significant glycosylated protein, and the unusual expression of CEA in human serum is used as a tumor marker in the clinical diagnosis of many cancers. Although scientists have reported many ways to detect CEA in recent years, such as electrochemistry, photoelectrochemistry, and fluorescence, their operation is complex and sensitivity is average. Therefore, finding a convenient method to accurately detect CEA is significance for the prevention of malignant tumors. With high sensitivity, quick reaction, and low background, electrochemiluminescence (ECL) has emerged as an essential method for the detection of tumor markers in blood. RESULTS: In this work, a "signal on-off" ECL immunosensor for sensitive analysis of CEA ground on the ternary extinction effects of CuFe2O4@PDA-MB towards a self-enhanced Ru(dcbpy)32+ functionalized metal-organic layer [(Hf)MOL-Ru-PEI-Pd] was prepared. The high ECL efficiency of (Hf)MOL-Ru-PEI-Pd originated from the dual intramolecular self-catalysis, including intramolecular co-reaction between polyethylenimine (PEI) and Ru(dcbpy)32+. At the same time, loading Pd NPs onto (Hf)MOL-Ru-PEI could not only improve the electron transfer ability of (Hf)MOL-Ru-PEI, but also provide more active sites for the reaction of Ru(dcbpy)32+ and PEI. In the presence of CEA, CuFe2O4@PDA-MB-Ab2 efficiently quenches the excited states of (Hf)MOL-Ru-PEI-Pd by PDA, Cu2+, and methylene blue (MB) via energy and electron transfer, leading to an ECL signal decrease. Under optimal conditions, the proposed CEA sensing strategy showed satisfactory properties ranging from 0.1 pg mL-1 to 100 ng mL-1 with a detection limit of 20 fg mL-1. SIGNIFICANCE: The (Hf)MOL-Ru-PEI-Pd and CuFe2O4@PDA-MB were prepared in this work might open up innovative directions to synthesize luminescence-functionalized MOLs and effective quencher. Besides, the ECL quenching mechanism of Ru(dcbpy)32+ by MB was successfully explained by the inner filter effect (ECL-IFE). At last, the proposed immunosensor exhibits excellent repeatability, stability, and selectivity, and may provide an attractive way for CEA and other disease markers determination.

RESUMO

Osteosarcoma (OS) has a high recurrence rate, disability rate, mortality and metastasis, it brings great economic burden and psychological pressure to patients, and then seriously affects the quality of life of patients. At present, the treatment methods of OS mainly include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical therapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with limb salvage surgery. These treatment methods can relieve the clinical symptoms of patients to a certain extent, and also effectively reduce the disability rate, mortality and recurrence rate of OS patients. However, because metastasis of tumor cells leads to new complications, and OS cells become resistant with prolonged drug intervention, which reduces the sensitivity of OS cells to drugs, these treatments still have some limitations. More and more studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has the characteristics of "multiple targets and multiple pathways," and can play an important role in the development of OS through several key signaling pathways, including PI3K/AKT, Wnt/ß-catenin, tyrosine kinase/transcription factor 3 (JAK/STAT3), Notch, transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß)/Smad, nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), Hippo/YAP, OPG/RANK/RANKL, Hedgehog and so on. In this paper, the signaling pathways of cross-interference between active ingredients of TCM and OS were reviewed, and the development status of novel OS treatment was analyzed. The active ingredients in TCM can provide therapeutic benefits to patients by targeting the activity of signaling pathways. In addition, potential strategies for targeted therapy of OS by using ferroptosis were discussed. We hope to provide a unique insight for the in-depth research and clinical application of TCM in the fields of OS growth, metastasis and chemotherapy resistance by understanding the signaling crosstalk between active ingredients in TCM and OS.

Background: Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) exist in various malignancies, and have been viewed as a promising biomarker to predict the efficacy and outcome of treatment. However, the marked inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneity of TILs has resulted in some confusion regarding their impact on the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: In this study, 78 CRC patients were enrolled and the CD3+ and CD8+ TILs densities at the tumor center (TC), the invasive margin (IM) and the tumor stroma (TS) were assessed by immunohistochemical staining. Their associations with clinicopathological features and progression free survival (PFS) were analyzed to evaluate the predictive and prognostic values of TILs. Results: TILs were mainly distributed along the invasive margin. High density of TILs in tumor center and invasive margin was associated with smaller tumor size (CD3+TILsIM), reduced tumor invasion (CD3+TILsIM), absence of lymph node metastasis (CD3+TILsIM and CD8+TILsTC), earlier stage (CD3+TILsIM and CD8+TILsIM), and lower tumor grade (CD3+TILsIM and CD8+TILsTC). However, stromal TILs were not associated with any clinicopathological features. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that high densities of TILs always correlated with prolonged patient survival. The pathological N stage, CD3+ TILsIM and CD8+ TILsTC were found to be independent prognostic indicators. Additionally, early-stage CRC patients who developed recurrence after surgery, showed a higher CD3+/CD8+ TILs ratio in invasive margin. In the present study, it was clarified that CD3+ and CD8+ TILs were heterogeneously distributed in tumor tissues of CRC. The increase in intratumoral and peritumoral TILs had been shown to be strongly predictive of improved clinical outcome. More importantly, the immune signatures enabled to stratify early-stage CRC patients with high risk of recurrence, highlighting the prognostic power of TILs.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the current situation and factors influencing physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life in Chinese colorectal cancer survivors. Additionally, this study explored the associations between physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life. METHODS: A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 173 colorectal cancer survivors with a mean age of 59 years. Self-reported data on basic demographic characteristics, physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life were collected. RESULTS: Among 173 colorectal cancer survivors, 90 (52.0%) were engaged in manual work. The self-efficacy score was found to be 25.99 ± 7.10, while the global health status score was 54.96 ± 21.56. Global health status was associated with sex, residence, chemoradiotherapy, and monthly income (p < 0.01). The self-efficacy score exhibited a significant positive correlation with quality of life, while demonstrating a negative correlation with symptom scores (p < 0.01). Recreational PA scores were positively associated with global health status (P < 0.05). Self-efficacy, recreational physical activity during winter, and whether the participants underwent chemoradiotherapy explained 29.3% of the variance in quality of life among colorectal cancer survivors. CONCLUSIONS: Colorectal cancer survivors exhibited low levels of physical activity, self-efficacy, and quality of life. Their health is influenced by self-efficacy, recreational physical activity, and chemoradiotherapy. When developing intervention plans for colorectal cancer survivorship, it is crucial to consider survivors' self-efficacy and the type of physical activity in which they engage.

PURPOSE: Predict intraocular lens position after cataract surgery using the IOL Master 700 and explore the associated ocular parameters compared with the results obtained from the anterior segment analysis system (Sirius, CSO Inc, Florence, Italy). METHODS: A total of 98 patients (106 eyes) were included in the retrospective study. The postoperative intraocular lens position was obtained using the IOL Master 700 and measured using Adobe Illustrator software. Correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were applied to study the correlation between the actual position of the postoperative intraocular lens (ALP) and the ocular parameters. In addition, Bland-Altman consistency analysis was used to compare the consistency between any two among the predicted intraocular lens position (ALPi) obtained using IOL Master 700 biometry, the predicted artificial lens position (ALPs) calculated using the anterior segment analysis system, or the ALP. RESULTS: Ocular parameters, including preoperative anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, axial length, white-to-white, and postoperative refractive error were all correlated with ALP after cataract surgery (P < 0.05) using univariate analysis. However, in multivariate linear regression, only the first three variables were correlated with ALP. Compared with the equation obtained by the anterior segment analysis, the equation from IOL Master 700 biometry provided a better fit. The results of the consistency analysis showed that ALP, ALPi, and ALPs were in good agreement. CONCLUSION: IOL Master 700 biometry can help predict intraocular lens position after surgery, and its accuracy is better than that provided by the anterior segment analysis system.
